Extreme backpacking.
Tens of millions of young Indians are currently tuning in for a reality television series that has been shot in regional Australia.
Australian taxpayer dollars were used to help with the production of Roadies, and it is hoped it will encourage young backpackers and students to come and see the country for themselves.
New South Wales has had a reputation in the industry of being a little film-unfriendly, but this month new protocols will be brought in by the State Government to try to attract more international shoots.
The New South Wales Government attracting more international shoots involving backpackers?!

Higgins Liberals attending a birthday celebration for their long self serving local Member of Parliament, Peter Costello have told reporters that he has made it clear that he will be running again in the blue-ribbon seat. This will fuel speculation he plans to return to Liberal leadership ranks.
A loyal Costello lieutenant operating in the area said on condition of anonymity:
“He’s made it quite clear there’s no vacancy in Higgins and no prospect of any vacancy in Higgins. With Rudd doing his best to impersonate Gough Whitlam’s overseas travel and overblown spending, Costello is clearly the best credentialed man in Australia to take him on and win it (government) back. And of course he wants to be Leader, it’s his destiny, mate.”

Together, they guarantee around $US6 trillion in outstanding home loans. But with 50 million mortgage customers, the two government-backed companies are weathering the lion’s shares of the subprime mortgage crisis.
So comments from a former Federal Reserve president, William Poole, that the pair might need bailing out, rocked confidence in an already troubled sector.

Pell melee at Telstra Dome.
IF CHRISTIANS believe they have seen the light, the faith of 30,000 young Catholics was made certain at the Telstra Dome last night with a spectacular laser display at Melbourne’s commissioning Mass.
The lighting effects, designed to turn the stadium into a cathedral full of stained glass, proved the highlight of the commissioning Mass to send pilgrims to Sydney for the World Youth Day and the papal Mass next week.

Exploitation by any other name ...
Federal Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop and child protection campaigner Hetty Johnston both called the use of the images exploitative.
“Unfortunately, this sounds as if a child has been exploited for the purposes of making a political point,” Ms Bishop told Sky News.
Bindi Irwin, nine, the Emmy-winning daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, is being made into a 25-centimetre rubber doll dressed in khakis and sporting binoculars, a camera and other outback gear, as well as a cockatoo, a wombat and a python.
Bindi Irwin’s career began with appearances on her father’s shows and later expanded to live music performances and child-fitness DVDs.
“A little child cannot answer for themselves about whether they wish to be depicted in this way,” Mr Rudd said. “Frankly, I can’t stand this stuff.
Mr Rudd said he had very deep, strong, personal views on the issue: “We should be on about maximising the protection of children.

A picture's worth a thousand raids.
When I was at primary school a few centuries ago, on the class room wall, alongside the portrait of the monarch of the day, hung this painting.
In schools right across our wide brown land were similar paintings by this well hung artist. On a daily basis impressionable young kiddies like me were exposed these paintings, paintings by the prolific and notorious artist Sir Hans Henson.
At first glance they might seem innocent enough, HOWEVER, when you play those paintings backwards ...
Little wonder Sir Kevin Robert Gordon Bowdler, Prime Minister of the day was moved to comment, "I find them absolutely revolting, and whatever the artistic view of the merits of that sort of stuff — frankly I don't think there are any — just allow gum trees to be gum trees and kids to be kids."
Federal Police are currently raiding primary schools Australia wide, removing the offending and offensive Hans Henson paintings. These raids follow the successful "Operation Airbrush" during which works were removed from the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Art Gallery of West Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Moyston Mechanics' Institute, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Australian War Memorial, and shipped to Salem for burning.

For anyone contemplating using the Sensis directory service number, 1234, DON’T!
Sensis, as you may or may not know, is a subsidiary of Telstra. The 1234 number is replacing the Telstra 12456 directory assistance number, but this time with outrageous costs attached: 40c to call the number, then 4c A SECOND!
By law, Telstra have to provide a FREE directory assistance number, because they are still majority owned by the government. They choose however not to pass this number on to the public.
What’s the number?............ 1223
Thumbs up to Telstra for finding a way to charge for a service that is supposed to be provided for free.

We’re taking part in Oxfam Trailwalker, a 100km endurance walk from Jells Park to Wesburn Park, overnight, in teams of four, through the Australian bush.

We’re doing all this to raise money for Oxfam Australia, who work to fight poverty and injustice in 26 countries around the world, including Indigenous Australia.
